Enhancing Anti-Terror Cooperation

Enhancing anti-terror cooperation will be among the focus areas during the Erdogan-Modi talks. Ghanashyam said both countries have been victims of terrorism and are battling it.

After a failed coup in July last year to topple Erdogan, Turkey had blamed Fethullah Gulen for it and said the outfit has "infiltrated" India. Turkey had also asked India to take action against the organisation.

Asked about the action taken by India so far, she said Turkey had raised it with the government, which has noted their concern.

India and Pak Should Resolve the Kashmir Issue: Erdogan

The Turkish leader said that it is in the interest of India and Pakistan that they should resolve the Kashmir issue and not leave it for the future generations who will have to suffer.

All around the world, there is no better option than keeping the channel of dialogue open. If we contribute towards global peace, we can get a very positive result,

Erdogan said India and Pakistan were both friends of Turkey and he wanted to help strengthen the dialogue process among the stakeholders for resolving the Kashmir issue which has been festering for the last 70 years.

Jamia to Confer an Honorary Degree

Jamia Millia Islamia will confer an honorary degree on the Turkish President. The decision, however, has not gone down well with many Jamia students who “condemned” the decision in a Change.org petition.

Addressed to Vice Chancellor Talat Ahmed, the petition reads:

Erdogan, who has won a flawed and fraudulent plebiscite in order to crown himself the unchallenged dictator of Turkey, is a toxic influence in Turkish public life, in West Asia and in the world at large. He has stifled dissent, cracked down on the rights of working people, women and minorities in Turkey and is conducting a brutal war on the peoples of Kurdistan.

It has been signed by 462 ‘supporters’ so far.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on him at Hotel Taj Palace, following which he attended a business event hosted by CII/Ficci/Assocham at Hotel Taj Palace.
