Two Killed as Training Aircraft Crashes in Maharashtra

Senior trainer Rajan Gupta and trainee pilot Shivani died in the accident.

Two people were killed on Wednesday when a small training aircraft crashed into a river near in Maharashtra’s Gondia district. The instructor and the trainee pilot of the DA42 plane were killed in the crash, sources said.

The plane was on a training sortie for the National Flying Training Institute, Gondia, and it lost contact with the Mumbai Air Traffic Controller (ATC) around 9:40 am, sources said.

The victims were senior trainer Rajan Gupta and a student, Shivani, sources added.

The incident happened in Kirori tehsil, around 40 km from Gondia town, they added.

Sources also said the aircraft broke into three and an oil spill was visible in the Wainganga river, into which the aircraft had crashed.
