Thieves Spray Poisonous Gas on Passengers of Jhelum Exp, Loot Them
The poisonous gas made the passengers lose their consciousness, enabling the thieves to make away with their loot.
Cash, electronic items and jewellery belonging to three passengers, one of them an army personnel, were stolen on-board the Pune-Jammu Tawi Jhelum Express on Friday, railway police said.
The passengers were asleep when the thieves struck and escaped with their luggage, they said.
According to a report on Hindustan Times, the looters allegedly sprayed a can of poisonous gas in two coaches of the train, causing the passengers to lose their consciousness, enabling the thieves to make away with their loot.
After the train reached the Ambala Cantt station, the passengers noticed that their valuables were missing and they reported the matter to the Government Railway Police.
The train stopped at the station for over 30 minutes as the police completed formalities.
Earlier in the day, the train halted at Madhya Pradesh for over six hours, following a bomb scare, passengers told ANI.
A senior GRP official at the station said an FIR has been registered on the complaint of the passengers and the matter was being investigated.
