The Mudra Institute of Communications in Ahmedabad concluded its annual marketing fest MICANVAS on 19 November with a vision to #ReThink the way marketing is being approached in the current ecosystem.

Spanning over 3 days, the fest was held from 17 to 19 November at MICA campus. A total of 25 B Schools, 6,000+ registrations and 30 events were just a few aspects of the spectacle MICANVAS 2018 was at the campus.

This ‘Mecca of Marketing’ has, over the years, adopted the new waves in marketing strategies and earned a reputation for churning out the finest marketers in the country. Everyone #ReThought their pedagogies, and the new pedagogy post the fest for everyone was ‘question the question’.

Fashion, cinema, radio, advertising, and smartphones were the broad categories touched upon in this edition.

The biggest of them all was Topline’s Annual Biz-Challenge 2018 – The case on Huawei, which came to a thrilling finish after the winners presented a unique solution to the global business problem.

MICANVAS in association with Diesel Fashion India Reliance Pvt Ltd launched a case-study competition for B-School students focused on their Hate Couture Campaign. The campaign promotes individual identity in an era of social conformity on social media and therefore, was extremely appealing to the audience.

This year, MICANVAS had used the glocal concept to enhance the story of MICA.

Mindspeak Speaker of the year Piyush Mishra, a renowned poet and actor, spent vital time with students and showcased the power of storytelling to them. He talked about the idea of impatience and how his creative process is meshed in the acute observation of society in general. He inspired students to be self-reliant by nature.

Also, the exponential growth of standup comedy has made the medium a growing influencer, and for standup comic Anirban Dasgupta to come and engage the audience with his stories was a testament to the influence of the community.

In addition to this, the fest had provided a unique opportunity to its students to attend workshops from FilterCopy, who have created landmark 13 million views with their new webisodes on Youtube.

The workshops were divided into two halves. The first one was a Writer's Workshop conducted by Kartik Krishnan, who's the creative director for content at Dice Media, and Dhruv Sehgal (actor/writer). Krishnan spoke about story with a plot whereas Sehgal spoke about story without a plot.

The second workshop involved fundamentals of production, cinematography, and smart brand integration.

The same was conducted by Aniruddha Patankar (DOP at Pocket Aces) and Bharat Mishra (Supervising producer at MICA).

The event weaved in music throughout the three days with the local college radio channel catering to requests to a live concert on the second day by River, who paid a tribute to Pink Floyd.

And, last but not least, a thrilling and engaging concert by Salim Sulaiman brought the house down on Sunday, 19 November, as the curtains came down on a memorable note for the 17th edition of MICANVAS.
