Controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen's residence permit has been extended for one year by the Union Home Ministry, officials said on Sunday, 21 July.

Taslima, a citizen of Sweden, has been getting an Indian residence permit on a continuous basis since 2004.

Her residence permit has been further extended for one more year till July 2020, a Home Ministry official told PTI.

On Saturday, 21 July, Taslima tweeted thanking Twitter and the MHA.

Nasreen was referring to a series of tweets that she put out on 16 July when she first mentioned having applied for the extension – later pleading against the fact that it had only been extended by three months instead of 5 years – the term she said she had applied for. On Saturday, she credited Twitterati for having helped her achieve this, since they had “requested MHA to extend it”, according to her.
