Four students of a government school in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district were found dead in a well on Friday. Police suspect it to be a case of a suicide pact.

The incident took place near their village Panapakkam, 88 kilometres from Chennai. They were identified as Revathi, Manisha, Shankari and Deepa of Class XI.

According to the preliminary investigation, the four girls were identified as Deepa, Sankari, Monisha and Revathi. They allegedly took the step after their teacher scolded them and asked them to bring their parents to the school for a briefing about their academic performance.

Sources say the Headmaster and the class teacher have been suspended and a probe has been ordered.

A police team, led by deputy superintendent of police (Arakonam) S Kuthalingam, DSP (Ranipet) Vijayakumar and Avalur police inspector Sathiyalingam visited the crime spot and made preliminary inquiries, reported NDTV.

The bodies of the students have been fished out from the 65-ft deep well by the fire and rescue services personnel.

So far no arrest has been made in this regard.
