The grunge look of faded jeans is the latest fad and the youth is on board to incorporate the trend this winter.
But a disappointing news for the students of St. Xavier’s College Mumbai was when a notice at the college entrance, banned ripped and torn jeans in the college premises.
The students termed the new rule as “draconian” and unreasonable.
The ban on ripped jeans was imposed on the students after a few professors said that ripped jeans have become an embarrassment during the classes. A professor had called the students wearing ripped jeans to his office and asked them to change and then come to college. The college then issued an official circular banning students from wearing them.
After the circular was issued, several students who were wearing ripped jeans were stopped by the security guards at the entrance of the campus.
While the students of St Xavier’s College find the restriction on clothes unreasonable, the admiration of the college justified the move by claiming that the restriction was imposed to maintain adequate decorum in the college premises.
The principal of the college said that ripped and torn jeans ‘mock the poor’ and explained the move citing “sociological” reasons.
