28-year-old student Lois Sofia was arrested by the Tamil Nadu cops on Monday, 3 September, and sent to judicial custody for 15 days for shouting slogans against the Modi government on a flight in the presence of Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Twitter came out in support of Lois Sofia, with many calling it a crackdown on freedom of speech and expression.

She was later granted unconditional bail but the cahrges against her have not been dropped.
