At least 15 people are reported to be dead and 150 injured after three coaches of the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derailed near Rae Bareli, reports CNN-IBN.

Reports say that the injured have been transferred to nearby hospitals and more relief vans are on their way. According to sources, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) has already reached the accident spot.

The train runs between Dehradun and Varanasi. The incident happened 47 kilometres from Lucknow.The train was about to come to halt at a station, but overshot. Railway sources told ANI news agency that brake failure is the likely cause.

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced a relief of two lakh rupees to the kin of the dead while Rs. 50,000 would be given to the kin of those injured.
