Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh’s contemplated innings with the AAP seem to be on hold at the moment. The reason for this being differences between the two on declaring the former batsman as the face of the assembly elections in 2017.

This followed suit after Sidhu had resigned from the Rajya Sabha on 18 July, exactly a month ago.

Since then, speculations of his joining the AAP have been doing the round. If sources are to be believed, Sidhu wanted tickets for both himself and his wife along with 14 other close associates. This AAP was not keen on.

Nothing, however, has been confirmed by Sidhu as of now.

Congress members from Punjab, on the other hand, claimed that they had a word with Sidhu on Wednesday and that he was welcome to join the party.

But Sidhu’s wife and BJP’s Amritsar (east) MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu had told that he was more keen on AAP and would not join Congress.

After resigning, Sidhu told the reporters that he had accepted the Rajya Sabha nomination only on the behest of the Prime Minister for Punjab’s welfare but things didn’t go as per plan.

With the closure of every window leading to Punjab, the purpose stands defeated. It is now a mere <a href="http://www.thequint.com/hot-wire/2016/07/18/after-quitting-rajya-sabha-is-aap-next-for-navjot-singh-sidhu">burden</a>, I prefer not to carry it.

Sources claim that the Sidhu couple had met AAP Chief Kejriwal at his residence on Friday evening. “He is still welcome to join us and we will wait for his response,” said Durgesh Pathak, AAP’s organisational in-charge.

BJP also seems to be in communication with the Sidhus.

Our channel of communication is still open with Navjot Kaur. She discussed several projects in her constituency with me just this morning.
