Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met Prime Minister Modi for the first time after a CBI probe in the Vypam Scam was ordered.

After the meeting, the CM announced an expansion of the council of ministers of the Madhya Pradesh state cabinet.

However, the Chief Minister announced that he did not have any plans of sacking Home Minister Babulal Gaur. Chouhan and Gaur – former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh – have had differences over a series of issues, including the Vyapam scam, according to party sources.

When asked about the possibility of removing the Home Minister, in fact, Chouhan said,

Why do you want to remove him?

Chouhan, who has been facing the heat for the Vyapam scam, met the PM for nearly 30 minutes.

The Chief Minister said that various issues were discussed in the meeting – including progress of the NITI Aayog sub-group headed by Chouhan.

The Vyapam scam involves massive irregularities and corruption in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or MP Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal.

The Supreme Court has, meanwhile, given the CBI three weeks’ time to take over cases related to Vyapam.
