At Least 19 Killed Due to Dust Storm, Lightning In Uttar Pradesh

The MeT Department has forecast that the weather will remain dry over western parts of Uttar Pradesh on 7 June.

At least 19 people lost their lives and nearly 50 were injured in dust storm and lightning that struck various parts of of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, 6 June, news agency ANI reported, citing State Relief Commissioner office.

“As per data collected, 19 casualties from 12 districts and 48 injuries have been reported due to thunderstorm yesterday,” GS Priyadarshi, State Relief Commissioner, told ANI on Friday.

District Collectors and ADMs have been told to compensate the affected as soon as possible, Priyadarshi reportedly said.

Trees were uprooted and walls collapsed in different parts of UP as the state witnessed dust storms late on Thursday evening. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to take all necessary measures to provide relief to the affected persons, according to PTI.

Meanwhile, the MeT Department has forecast that the weather will remain dry over western parts of Uttar Pradesh on 7 June.

Delhi is likely to have partly cloudy skies with heatwave conditions at isolated places, and the maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to hover around 45 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, the city's minimum temperature was recorded at 28.6 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature settled at 43.9 degrees Celsius.
