Senior Police Official from UP Anti-Terrorism Squad Shoots Self
The reason behind the apparent suicide is unknown.
In an apparent case of suicide, a senior police official from the Uttar Pradesh Police department allegedly shot himself with his service weapon on Tuesday, 29 May.
Rajesh Sahni, a senior official with the UP Police's Anti Terrorism Squad, was reportedly on leave when he took his life.
According to NDTV, Sahni went to his office in the afternoon, and asked his staff to fetch his pistol from his car. Speaking to the channel, senior police officer Anand Kumar said that Sahni used his pistol to shoot himself on his temple at 12:45 pm.
The police is currently investigating the possible reasons behind the death, as no suicide note was left behind by Sahni.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Om Prakash Singh took to Twitter to express his grief over the incident.
Sahni was an additional superintendent, and has been credited with solving some of the most important cases in the department, including busting a terror-unit in Kanpur last year, reported NDTV.
His death comes close on the heels of Himanshu Roy's suicide, who was a decorated police officer in the Mumbai Police. Roy too was on leave when he took his life. He was suspected to have been depressed, and was ailing from cancer at the time of his death.
