The Supreme Court on Monday, 11 February, issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Police on a writ petition filed by Mehtaab, the eldest son of deceased Qasim, the victim in the 2018 Hapur lynching case, reported ANI.

The notice seeks direction for the SIT probe with the officer from outside UP.

The court tagged the matter with earlier pending pleas.

In June 2018, 38-year-old Qasim was lynched and 65-year-old Shamsuddin severely injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district when a group of angry people attacked them on the suspicion that they were cow slaughterers.

The four accused in the case were granted bail after they told the court that they had no role in the attack.
