No Takers for a Jeans-Clad Bride: Union Minister Satyapal Singh

The minister also said that no saint will be revered if he gives up his traditional attire and wears jeans.

Union Minister of State for human resource development Satyapal Singh sparked controversy with his remark on Sunday, "No boy will be ready to marry a girl who comes to the mandap in jeans".

The minister who was speaking at a function in Gorakhpur with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also said, "Similarly, no saint will be revered if he gives up his traditional attire and wears jeans."

Koi aadmi agar kehne lage ki main jeans pehenke kisi mandir ka mahant ban jaaunga to log pasand karenge kya? Koi pasand nahi karega. Ya koi ladki jeans pehenkar ke shaadi ke bedi pe jaayegi toh kitne ladke usse shaadi karna chahenge?

Minister Satyapal Singh was speaking before a gathering of students at the concluding ceremony of foundation day of Maharana Pratap Siksha Parishad (MPSP), the academic venture of Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur.

These remarks were made in the context of appropriate attire according to the Indian culture.

Singh also talked about linking education with employment, Hindustan Times reported.
