Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi on Thursday, 11 April, called for fighting the ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and claimed it was trying to divide India, while addressing at an event – to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi, Mahatma's wife – in Porbandar, reported The Indian Express.

Tushar, who is the son of Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Arun, said that Gandhians' only loyalty can be towards the India envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi, adding that RSS was threatening the very ideals of Gandhi.

Stressing on Gandhians' responsibility to protect the democracy, Tushar said, "We had even sent Indira Gandhi home when she had set out to become a dictator. That strength is not dead even today." However, the idea underpinning that strength has weakened, which has to be strengthened again, he added, according to The Indian Express.

Alleging that it was the RSS behind the Mahatma’s murder, Tushar said, “In my every speech, I say that while Godse might have been Bapu’s assassin, the assassination was ordered by the RSS.”

Tushar further highlighted that history has not given Kasturba the recognition she deserves, instead talked about her merely as Gandhi's wife. "She was a martyr, but we have never recognised her as one. Not because the government has not done anything but because Gandhians have remained Mohanwadi only,” he said.

The event was organised by Gandhian institutes and involved a rally from Shree Patel Vidyarthi Ashram to Kasturba’s home.
