RSS Affiliate Wants Schools and Colleges to Do Away with English
The outfit has written to the HRD ministry and has asked it to change the medium of education to regional languages.
The Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas (SSUN), an affiliate body of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has asked the Ministry of Human Resource Development to make vernacular languages the medium of elementary education, reports The Indian Express.
The Nyas wants all schools and colleges to change the medium of education to regional languages and take legal action against institutions which prevent students from speaking in their mother tongue.
English should not be an option to any regional languages and should not be made mandatory either, the RSS-affiliate has demanded.
Moreover, the outfit wants all the research work funded through scholarships by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to be in “national interest”, failing which, it should not be granted scholarships.
HRD Minister Prakah Javadekar has acknowledged the list of suggestions sent by the Nyas and also allegedly assured they will be considered while formulating the next education policy.
“He said we will certainly consider your suggestions. He also appreciated many of the suggestions,” Atul Kothari, convener and secretary of the outfit, told The Indian Express.
