A girl’s reddit post on being raised in a traditional Indian family has gone viral.
The redditor SoDesiGirl wrote about how she was raised in a largely conservative family and was manipulated by the emotional and social expectations of her family and society.
The post, which has been upvoted 600 times and has over 400 comments, resonated with other younger Indian women who replied on the thread.
Others commented on the societal constructs that women need to live with in Indian society and how they can not “disobey” their parents.
Redditors wrote about how they were in the same position as the girl and how they overcame the hurdles posed in the traditional ‘culture’ of the family environment.
Of all the comments, the most common was of redditors advising the girl to live her life on her own terms, instead of worrying so much about how her parents would react.
