Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, 9 August, during a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi were concerned about the Dalits, he would frame policies accordingly.

Quoting from the book, 'Karm Yogi', authored by PM Modi, Rahul said: “Narendra Modi thinks Dalits experience spirituality in cleaning toilets."

The protest, where CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury was also present, was organised to highlight the atrocities against the Dalits under the BJP rule.

Narendra Modi does not want dalits to be a part of India’s future. Wherever there is BJP government, Dalits are beaten up and crushed.

The Gandhi scion added that people from the marginalised community were being suppressed further across the country, referring to Rohit Vemula's case. “BJP rewards those who attack the Dalits.”

The Dalit agitation against the BJP, RSS ideology and Narendra Modi will defeat them in 2019, and we will form a government which works for all citizens without discriminating on the basis of their caste or religion.

In March this year, the Dalits took to streets across the country, protesting against the Supreme Court order, which many thought, diluted the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Earlier this week, the Lok Sabha passed a bill ruling out any provision for anticipatory bail for a person accused of atrocities against SC/STs, notwithstanding any court order.
