Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar was best known for popularising the sitar and Indian classical music in the West. The musician and composer hobnobbed with the Beatles and spearheaded the first rock benefit concert as he introduced traditional Indian ragas to Western audiences over nearly a century.
