Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh blocked a part of the national highway 5 near Shimla, and prompted the authorities to suspend the Manimahesh Yatra in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Monday, 26 August.
Villages in Punajab's border district Ferozepur on the other hand, are facing a flood threat after a major portion of an embankment in the catchment area of Sutlej was away after Pakistan released water into the Indian territory.
More than 50 people have so far lost their lives in the floods in northern India.

Flood Alert for Delhi as Yamuna Likely to Cross Danger Mark on Monday
The Delhi government on Sunday sounded a flood alert for the city and asked people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places as the water level in the Yamuna river is expected to cross the danger mark, officials cited by PTI said.
The Yamuna was flowing at 203.37 metres on Sunday evening and its water level is expected to rise up to 207 metres on Monday as 8.28 lakh cusecs water, the highest till date, was released from Haryana's Hathini Kund barrage at 6 pm, an official said.
"Water level is rising due to heavy rains as well as release of water from Hathini Kund Barrage and water level of Yamuna may rise up to 207 metres by 10 am tomorrow (Monday), putting at risk public life and property," East Delhi district said in its order.
Rescue Ops Underway in Uttarkashi Following Cloudburst
Rescue operations are underway in Uttarkashi's Mori tehsil following a cloudburst in the area, with two choppers having taken off with communication equipment and ropes. Three medical teams are also in Mori's Arakot in Uttarakhand.
Yamuna Water Above Warning Level, Delhi Govt Calls Emergency Meeting
The water level of Yamuna river in Delhi has been recorded at 204.70 metres on Monday morning (the warning level is 204.50 metres) after more than 8 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Haryana's Hathini Kund barrage on Sunday.
The Delhi government has called for an emergency meeting to be chaired by CM Arvind Kejriwal and has issued orders for evacuation from low-lying areas, with civic defence volunteers being deployed.

22 People Have Died in 2 Days, Situation is Improving: Himachal CM
Speaking on the flood-situation in his state, Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur said that 22 have died in the past two days. "Death toll in the entire monsoon season is 43. Losses of Rs 574 crore estimated till now, detailed reports will come later. The situation is improving," he added.
Rains to Continue in Himachal, Over 500 Stuck
While heavy rains have already claimed 22 lives in Himachal Pradesh over the past two days, the meteorological department on Monday predicted that the downpour is likely to continue in parts of the state during the next 24 hours.
Light-to-moderate rainfall will occur at many places in the state in the next 24 hours with heavy rains expected at isolated places, Shimla Met centre Director Manmohan Singh said.
Over 500 people are stranded in several parts of the state as a number of roads have been blocked by landslides and flash floods, officials cited by PTI said.
Efforts are on to clear the roads and restore traffic to move them to safer places.

The water supply in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district has been adversely affected due to heavy rainfall, an official said, adding that it might take two to three days to restore the supply, PTI reported.
Meanwhile, the Averi-Bajirbody road and the Bajaura-Kataula road near Ropa in Kullu district were blocked due to a landslide, the officials said.

Yamuna River Breaches Danger Mark in Delhi
The Yamuna river breached the danger mark in Delhi on Monday evening, prompting authorities to evacuate people from low-lying areas, PTI reported.
According to a Delhi government official, the river was flowing at 205.36 metres, just above the danger mark of 205.33 metres.
The official said that the water level is expected to rise further as Haryana released 1.43 lakh cusec water at 6 pm on Monday.
Over 40 Rescued in Punjab's Ludhiana
Three teams of NDRF have rescued over 40 people and eight animals in Bholeval Kadim village in Punjab’s Ludhiana, an NDRF inspector said, according to ANI.

20 Killed in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi Due to Cloudburst
At least 20 people have died in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi after a cloudburst hit Mori tehsil of the district, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Monday, according to ANI.
“12 bodies have been recovered. People from NDRF, SDRF and forest department are engaged in rescue operations,” Singh added.

The Punjab government on Monday declared the floods in the state a natural calamity, PTI reported.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has asked the Financial Commissioner Revenue (FCR) to officially declare the situation a natural calamity with the village as a unit to help the affected people get insurance claims against the loss suffered by them.
Schools, Colleges in Shimla's Chamba to Remain Shut on Tuesday
All educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district will be closed on Tuesday as heavy to extremely heavy rains remain unabated in the region, district officials said.
In its order issued by the district administration, all schools, colleges, universities, ITIs, polytechnics and anganwari centres have been asked to remain shut.
Over 10000 People Evacuated as Yamuna Breaches Danger Mark in Delhi
More than 10,000 people living in low-lying areas along the Yamuna in Delhi were evacuated by government agencies as the river breached the danger mark on Monday evening, officials said.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the water level in the river is likely to rise further with more discharge from the Hathnikund barrage by neighbouring Haryana.
People living in the floodplain of the river have been moved to the over 2,000 tents set up by various Delhi government agencies at safer places.
Teenager Drowns in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah
The Ganga, Yamuna, Ghaghara and several other rivers were in spate in Uttar Pradesh on Monday due to heavy rains in neighbouring states, leading to floods in low-lying areas that left one person dead, PTI reported.
According to the Central Water Commission, the Yamuna is flowing above the danger mark in Auraiya and Jalaun, while the Ganga in Badaun, the Chambal river at Palia Kalan in Lakhimpur Kheri and the Ghaghara are flowing above the red mark.
According to officials, 16-year-old Anshu drowned in Etawah district due to release of water from the Kota barrage into the Chambal.
Punjab Floods: Relief Camps Set up in Ferozepur
Relief camps have been set up by the Ferozepur district administration in Punjab for the residents of 52 villages living near the swollen Sutlej river, officials said.
The residents have been asked to evacuate to safer places in the wake of rising water level in the river, the officials added.
Over 200 Army jawans have also been deployed along with 12 motorboats in Makhu and Zira area to help in evacuation.
Rain Death Toll in North India Climbs to 38
Rains in the northern states claimed at least 38 lives and triggered landslides that left hundreds of people in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh stranded.

An Indian Air Force chopper has taken off from Jollygrant for Mori block in Uttarkashi carrying food material.

Death Toll Climbs To 42

Pregnant Woman & Family Spend Entire Night Perched on Tree in Delhi
A pregnant woman and her family spent an entire night on a tree to save themselves from the water from the overflowing Yamuna, which had submerged their hut in Usmanpur area of New Delhi.
Scared witless when the floodwaters entered her house, Noorjahan used a pile of wood to climb a tree to save her and her two children. When her husband Jahangir, a rickshaw puller, returned home late at night, he too took shelter on the tree.
The family spent the entire night there and called up the police only at 11 am today, a government official said. A team of policemen and doctors rushed to the spot and rescued the family at around 12 noon.

The Manali-Leh Highway, which remained blocked for over four hours due to fresh landslides in Kullu district, was reopened for traffic today evening, police said.

19 Killed in Rain-Related Incidents in UP
As many as 19 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh where raging waters of major rivers have disrupted normal life, officials told PTI on Thursday.
"As many as 15 persons have died due to rain related incidents in different districts of the state,” the Relief Commissioner's office said.
"The figure included three deaths in Amethi, two each in Raebareli, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur and one death each in Saharanpur, Hamirpur, Pratapgarh, Fathepur, Basti and, Ayodhya," it added.
Besides the 15, four more persons have died in Ballia and Bhadohi, according to reports.

According to a statement by the Home Ministry, an inter-ministerial central team, led by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs Prakash, is visiting Karnataka on Saturday, 24 August, to have first-hand on-the-spot assessment of damages caused and relief work carried out by the state administration.
In pursuance of a significant decision taken by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a meeting of the high-level committee on 19 August, inter-ministerial central teams will visit Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Kerala affected by the recent floods, the statement said.

A multipurpose camp will be organised at Arakot in Mori Tehsil near Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand on 25 August, chaired by District Collector Ashish Chauhan. Records like ration card, caste certificate, Aadhar card that were destroyed after cloud-burst will also be provided to the affected people, ANI reported.
DGCA Suspends Helicopter Services for Relief Operations in Uttarakhand
Aviation watchdog DGCA has suspended helicopter services for relief operations in Uttarakhand in the wake of two chopper crashes wherein three people died, according to a senior official, PTI reported.
Only in emergency situations, helicopter services for relief operations would be allowed till the state authorities put in place Standard Operating Procedures, the official said.
In a chopper crash on 21 August, all three people onboard were killed, while in another incident on 23 August, two people suffered minor injuries.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday expressed surprise over Punjab not being included in the list of states identified for on-the-spot assessment of flood situation by an Inter-Ministerial Central Team, PTI reported.
He sought immediate inclusion of Punjab in the list as the state has been hit by floods.
The Centre has listed 11 states for IMCT review of the flood damage but Punjab does not find mention in it, even though the state has witnessed large-scale flooding in many areas following unprecedented rains.
The chief minister urged Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately rectify it.

With rains again lashing parts of flood-ravaged Punjab, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday directed all ministers overseeing relief operations and the deputy commissioners to step up vigil in Chandigarh.
According to a forecast by the MeT department, light to moderate rains/thundershowers are likely at a few places on 25 August, and at isolated places, thereafter in the state, which witnessed its worst flood in decades.
Pak Releases More Water, Flood Threat in Villages in Punjab's Ferozepur
A few villages in Punjab's border district Ferozepur are facing a flood threat after a major portion of an embankment in the catchment area of the Sutlej river was washed away following the pakistan's release of water into the Indian territory.
Officials said that the Ferozepur district administration is on high alert, while precautionary deployment of the NDRF and the Army teams has been made in view of the flood threat which looms large in some villages.
Sardar Sarovar Dam Water Level Rises, MP Village Set to Vanish
A village in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district has begun submerging as the level of the backwater of neighbouring Gujarat's Sardar Sarovar Dam started rising over the past fortnight due to heavy rains.
“On Sunday, the backwater level rose to 133 metres, 6.5 metres above the danger mark, leaving thousands of trees, large chunk of agricultural land and human settlements in Nisarpur, about 180 kilometres from here, on the brink of going under,” an senior official said.

Central Team to Visit Punjab to Assess Damage; CM Holds Meeting With Officials
A central team will soon visit Punjab to assess the damage in the flood-ravaged state, where rains lashed some parts today as Chief Minister Amarinder Singh directed all ministers and deputy commissioners overseeing relief operations to step up vigil.
The chief minister, who was joined by his Chief Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar and state Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh, presided over a high-level meeting to review the flood situation in Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Rupnagar districts.

Manimahesh Yatra Suspended Due to Heavy Rains
The Manimahesh Yatra in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district has been suspended due to washing away of a bridge following rains, a police official said on Monday, 26 August.
He advised pilgrims not to proceed further towards Chamba/Manimahesh, till clearance from authorities concerned.
The Manimahesh Lake is situated 26 km rom Bharmour in Budhil valley, an important pilgrimage spot in Himachal Pradesh.
The lake is situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet. Every year during August/September thousands of pilgrims flock the lake to take a dip.
Patkar on 'Satyagraha' to Seek Rehab of Flood-Affected in MP
Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) founder Medha Patkar has started an indefinite protest over her demand for proper rehabilitation of the flood-affected people in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district and opening of gates of the Sardar Sarovar Dam in neighbouring Gujarat.
“We had apprised the state government about our demands. Relief camps should have been set up at different villages in the area of submergence, the displaced have not been rehabilitated properly so far,” Patkar told reporters at the protest site.
Earlier this month, the dam's backwater level increased following heavy rains, creating a flood-like situation in some parts of the district.
