Navi Mumbai police have arrested a history sheeter in connection with the rape and murder of a 27-year-old local woman earlier this month.
Rajkumar Pandey, hailing from Khalapur in Raigad district neighbouring Mumbai, was apprehended from Taloja on a tip off.
The woman, identified as Anjali Pawar, was murdered on night of 3 November allegedly by Pandey who has a string of cases registered against him, said senior police inspector NB Kolhatkar of crime unit II, Panvel.

A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the watchman of her building in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in Thane, police said on Tuesday.
The child was playing in the ground of her housing complex in Kamathghar last afternoon when the accused, Manilal Dhamke (60), took her to an isolated spot behind the Ganesh Mandir and abused her, police said.
The girl told her parents about it and they lodged a complaint with the police.

There has been "utmost carelessness" in investigations by police in the murder case, alleged Collectorate Bar Association president Rameswar Prasad Pachori.

Two persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the recent murder of a journalist of a prominent vernacular daily, police said.
Scribe Dharmendra Singh, a journalist with Dainik Bhaskar, was shot dead by some unidentified assailants when he was having tea at a roadside stall in his village Amra talab of Rohtas district.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted to probe the murder case, arrested two persons during a raid late last night, a statement issued by the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) said.

A gang of auto-lifters took to preaching religious texts to attract followers, who were then robbed of their vehicles. Police say that the vehicles, mainly two-wheelers, were then sold in villages. Police have arrested the two masterminds and recovered eight motorbikes.

A special city court in Chennai has sentenced a former senior manager of an Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) branch and two others to two years rigorous imprisonment in connection with a cheating case.
According to the prosecution, senior bank manager of IOB, Virugambakkam Branch, G Vasudevan, entered into a criminal conspiracy with two people to cheat the bank in 2002. He cleared various cheques presented by Sanjay, properietor of M/s KN Enterprises, and Mahesh Jain, proprietor of M/s Cooling Equipment of Royapettah.

Heroin worth Rs 23 lakh was seized from two Sri Lankan nationals in Kolkata airport on Monday. A source said the two accused were about to fly to Chennai and from there to Colombo.
The contraband item was concealed in six condoms. The duo were caught by the CISF and handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The two accused – a man and a woman – were going to Chennai by two different flights. The woman had hidden the drugs in her garments. She was transporting heroin, worth Rs 10 lakh, and the remaining contraband, amounting to Rs 13 lakh, was recovered from the man.

A woman was arrested Monday for planning an acid attack on three sisters, including a minor, and getting it executed through her friend in Baharia police station area of Allahabad on 5 November. The police also arrested woman’s friend and two others including a juvenile.
The victims – Rekha (20) and her cousins Radha (25) and Shriya (16) – were returning home from fields when two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly threw acid on them at Ramgarh Kothari village.
