1. Bootlegger Smuggling Illicit Liquor in Car Arrested in Delhi

A bootlegger, who smuggled illicit liquor in his car, was arrested on Wednesday by the police near Moti Lal Nehru College.

The police, helped by an informer, had laid a trap near the college on Benito Marg where Nand Ram (35) arrived in a Honda City car around 6 am. He was overpowered by the police.

A search of the car yielded 28 cartons of illicit liquor marked for sale only in Haryana. The accused was arrested after the recovery. He was previously arrested in May for the same offence. Ram, who belonged to Jaipur, had shifted to Delhi last year and had purchased the second-hand car to supply illicit liquor.

2. Student at Kota’s Allen Institute Allegedly Commits Suicide

A student has allegedly committed suicide at the coaching institute hub in Rajasthan’s Kota. Nikhil Nayan Kumar of Bhagalpur, Bihar, was taking AIPMT classes and resided in a hostel of Allen coaching Institute, according to The Tribune.

He was found hanging in the bathroom of his hostel on Tuesday night.

Till date, ten students have committed suicide this year. Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed concern over rising level of mental stress among students in Kota and said coaching institutes should not turn themselves into factories of education.

3. 26-Year-Old Woman in Dwarka Found Hanging, Family Alleges Foul Play

A 26-year-old woman was found hanging in her Dwarka home in southwest Delhi, reported the Times of India.

While it looked to be a case of suicide, her family has alleged that it was a murder committed by her husband. No suicide note has been found yet.

Renu, the woman, lived with her husband and two-year-old son and it appeared that the incident occurred while her husband had gone out to the nearby market. Her husband came back around 10.30 pm and broke the door open when she did not respond.

She was declared brought dead on arrival and the autopsy report is awaited to rule out any foul play.

4. Man Who Sent Obscene Photos, Videos to 1,500 Women Arrested in Delhi

A 31-year-old man named Mohammad Khalid, was arrested on Tuesday for harassing more than 1,500 women by sending them porn videos, vulgar photos, incriminating text messages and dirty jokes, The Hindustan Times reported.

A school dropout, Khalid had a collection of over 2,000 phone numbers of women.

Khalid told the police he would only message the “pretty women” after seeing their photos on WhatsApp. He said it was only harmless flirting and would give him a kick.

He procured three sim cards under fake identities with which he would message the women. Some of the women he chatted with, also jeopardised their marriages as their husbands suspected them of having affairs with Khalid.

5. Fire Breaks Out at Delhi Home Killing Woman, Two Daughters

A suspected gas leakage caused the death of a woman and her two daughters in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area, according to the Indian Express.

The deceased have been identified as Mithlesh Devi (42) and her daughters, Kavita (15) and Anjali (20). Anjali was married around four months ago and was reportedly pregnant.

The fire broke out around 9 pm on Tuesday when Mithlesh was cooking dinner, with the daughters assisting her in the kitchen. While Mithlesh’s husband, son and daughter-in-law managed to flee from the house, the three in the kitchen got trapped, a police official said.

The fire is suspected to have been caused due to a gas leakage.

6. Youth Arrested for Rape and Murder of 7-Year-Old

A youth was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping and murdering a minor girl in suburban Malwani in May, police said today.

The 7-year-old girl, resident of Patelwadi in Malwani, went missing on 23 May, and her body was found near a creek in INS Hamla area the same night. A medical examination had revealed that she was raped and then murdered.

The police zeroed in on some men in the surrounding areas and had sent their blood samples to forensic lab for DNA analysis. The DNA profile of Sadalu Saroj matched with the blood found on the girl’s clothes.

Saroj, who lives in the same area, was arrested late on Tuesday night.

7. 77-Year-Old Who Stole Over 1000 Cars Nabbed Again

Less than two months after his release from jail, 77-year-old Dhani Ram Mittal has again landed in jail in a vehicle theft case, reported the Hindustan Times.

Known as ‘Super Natwarlal’ and ‘Indian Charles Sobhraj’ in police records, Mittal has been involved in over 130 vehicle theft cases over the years.

He was arrested on Tuesday in west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar in a Maruti Esteem car he had stolen on Monday from Shalimar Bagh. He was on his way to sell the stolen car to a scrap dealer when he was nabbed.

Monday’s theft was Mittal’s second car theft since his release from jail on 4 May. He was last arrested in March.

8. Police Officer’s Son, Security Guard Shot Dead

A 28-year-old man, son of a retired police inspector was shot dead allegedly by three unidentified assailants in Ganganagar in Meerut on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around midnight when three car-borne assailants shot Ankur while he was returning to his home from market, they said. Homeguard Sanjay Kumar Sharma who came to victim’s help was also shot at and injured by the attackers, SHO Anangpal Singh said.

Police has registered a case of murder against the three unidentified persons. Investigation is underway and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused.

9. 5-Day-Old Thrown in Well, Cop Jumps to Save Her

An infant girl in Agra was thrown into a 50-foot-deep dry well by an unidentified person, reported the Times of India.

Hearing her wail, police sub-inspector Virpal Singh jumped in and brought her out. However, the condition of the baby remains critical. The incident occurred close to leather park area in remote Pali Mahaur village of Kirauli area on Tuesday evening at around 7.15 pm.

After hearing the wails of a child coming from the well, we rushed towards it and saw an infant wrapped in white cloth at the bottom of the dry well. We immediately made a distress call to the police, after which a team of cops came within six to seven minutes and started rescue operations.
