In a video released on Monday, 9 December in connection with Sonia Gandhi’s birthday celebrations in Puducherry, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy is seen gifting onions to Congress party women workers. The event was organised in an apparent dig on the Centre's failure in controlling onion prices. Narayanasamy claimed that the price has increased to Rs 300/kg while interacting with the media.

The Puducherry Congress Twitter handle also shared photos of women workers receiving onions from the CM.

Narayanasamy criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not commenting on the increasing onion prices and failing to find a solution to curb the soaring prices. He provided an example of how United Progress Alliance (UPA) brought down the price by importing onions from other countries.
