A 21-year-old man from Karnataka’s Kataki village is believed to have killed his father after an altercation over the online mobile game, PUBG, on Monday, 9 September.

The incident, police told The Quint, took place after Kumbar’s father took his phone away following the altercation over PUBG. As things heated up, an “overpowering” Kumbar, in the presence of the mother, attacked his 65-year-old father with a knife in the neck and legs.

The accused fled right after the confrontation, but was arrested later and sent to custody. The body has also been sent for post mortem.

Kumbar’s father, Shankar, a former police officer, had retired just three months back.

Lokesh Kumar, the commissioner of police, said that prima facie, it look like a case of smartphone addiction. However, the police will investigate further to look into other possibilities.
