Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on 24 June via his radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. This is the 45th edition of the monthly programme.
The PM lauded the Indian men’s cricket team’s win over Afghanistan, and said that sports is an excellent route to unite society and to showcase the talents and skills of youth.
Modi hailed cricketer Rashid Khan as an “asset” to the world of cricket.
Speaking about the International Yoga Day, PM Modi said that it was a matter of “great pride” for 125 crore people to witness members of the armed forces perform yoga across land, sea and sky.
The prime minister spoke about Doctors Day (1 July), and said that the role of doctors is not limited to giving medicines.
Recalling the horrific Jallianwala Bagh incident in 1909, PM Modi said that 2019 marked 100 years of the incident that embarrassed all of humanity.
The prime minister also lauded the citizens’ cooperation in rolling out the country’s largest tax reform, the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He hailed GST as the best example of the country’s “cooperative federalism.”
