The Gujarat government has a Diwali gift for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown of Vadnagar – it is all set to be digitised. Under the Digital Village Scheme, nearly 43 villages falling within the boundaries of this taluka will be equipped with solar power. Alok Pandey, Mehsana’s Collector told ToI:

As a part of the Union government’s plan to digitise all the villages, we have begun to equip Vadnagar town and all the villages of the taluka (block) with a host of digital services.

ToI also quoted the collector as saying that all public places like the Vadnagar railway station and Sharmistha Lake would soon be equipped with free Wi-Fi. Further, other services like healthcare and education would also be digitised under government schemes like “e-gram”. Pandey added:

The government plans to develop solar power generation facilities as well.
Tele-medicine facilities
The means through which super specialty health services will be provided.
Tele-agri facilities
The means through which information about agriculture and farming will be provided.

Amongst other things, school students in Vadnagar will now receive tuition through “tele-education.” In an effort to boost employment, a skill development centre will be established, which will conduct regional employment-related activities. The centre will also establish connections with industrial units.

Vadnagar will also see a new medical college. Eventually, this project will also see the national optical fibre network being utilised. After the linkage is made available, solar power will be produced through solar panels. According to the report, Vadnagar will also have new 56-inch LED TVs for the public.
