After Meeting Macron, Modi Concludes His Four-Nation Tour

After holding a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi left for Delhi from the Orly Airport in Paris.

This concludes his four-nation tour, during which he also visited Germany, Spain, Russia and France.

After addressing the press conference, Modi visited the Arc de Triomphe monument along with Macron to pay homage to Indian soldiers.

Macron Says Will Visit India By the End of the Year

As Modi praised French President Emmanuel Macron’s “positivity” with regard to the International Solar Alliance, Macron said:

I will be travelling to India by end of the year and we will convene a meeting of the World Solar Alliance.&nbsp;

Climate and Terrorism Two Threats to Humanity: PM Modi

Addressing a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about how climate (change) and terrorism were two threats facing humanity.

Modi specifically spoke about the Paris Climate Agreement, calling it an “article of faith” for the Indians and “shared heritage” of the world.

Meanwhile, Macron also reiterated France’s commitment to fighting climate change, saying:

France is committed to fighting climate change and we will continue, not only within the framework of Paris accord, but also in terms of the actions we are implementing.&nbsp;

Their statements come in the context of Donald Trump announcing the withdrawal of the US from the Paris climate change pact. Justifying his move, Trump had targeted India and China, saying how the pact was advantageous to the two countries.

Modi-Macron Meeting to Discuss Terrorism And Climate Change

Modi will be holding talks with Macron on Saturday on ways to enhance the bilateral strategic ties and discuss key issues like terrorism and climate change.

A joint declaration is expected after a meeting between the two leaders at Elysee Palace.

The Indian prime minister announced his arrival in France with a tweet:

Regarding his meeting with the French President, Modi said:

France is one of our most important Strategic Partners. I look forward to meeting President Macron and have discussions on issues of mutual interest. I would be exchanging views with the French President on important global issues including UN Security Council reforms and India’s permanent membership of the UN Security Council, India’s membership of the various multilateral export control regimes, counter-terrorism cooperation, collaboration on climate change and International Solar Alliance.

Along with being India's 9th largest investment partner, France is also a key partner in India's development initiatives in defence, space, nuclear and renewable energy, urban development and railways.

After 39-year-old Macron’s recent election as France’s President, Modi called him up to congratulate him and said he looked forward to working with him to deepen the bilateral ties.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paris on Friday on the final leg of his six-day, four-nation tour of Europe.

On Saturday, Modi will hold his first meeting with newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

Earlier on Friday, Modi attended for the first time the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an annual business and economic event hosted by the Russian President in city of St. Petersburg.

He also attended a collective meeting of Governors of 16 regions of Russia.

On the sidelines of the event, Modi met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern, and Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Union Tigran Sargasyan.

Prior to Russia, he visited Germany and Spain.
