Fresh clashes broke out in the Kashmir valley on Monday between protesters and security forces in which two civilians were killed taking the death toll to 41.

The two civilians were killed in retaliatory firing after the protesters pelted stones at an Army vehicle in Qazigund in south Kashmir as curfew in the valley continued for the 10th day, police said, adding that seven people were also injured, including one critically.

Mohammad Khalil Bandh, a People’s Democratic Party MLA was earlier injured when he was attacked by a stone pelting mob.

Bandh, the legislator from Pulwama, was travelling through the district, at around 1 am on Sunday night when a crowd began pelting stones at his car.

As the driver began speeding to safety, the car flipped over, leaving the politician seriously injured.

Bandh has been taken to an army hospital, in the Badami Bagh cantonment. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti visted him at the hospital.

The driver and the personal security guard of the MLA suffered minor injuries.
