Permanent Account Number, popularly known as PAN card, has become an important piece of document for the people of India. It is provided by the income tax department to every tax payer. The 10-digit card number is unique for every individual and is used to track down the financial transactions and helps the government to prevent tax evasion by keeping track of monetary transactions.
The PAN card was issued to prevent tax evasion by individuals and entities. PAN card is also a very essential document for sale or purchase of any type of goods costing a lakh or above.
While applying for a PAN card, an individual is required to submit a set of documents as a proof of identity, proof of address and date of birth. Depending on the applicant’s nature of residence, there are two types of forms that must be filled in order to get a PAN card.
Form 49A must be filled by the Indian citizens and companies formed in India. Whereas for individuals who are not the citizens of India or companies formed outside India, form 49AA should be filled.

Central Government’s health scheme card
Bank certificate with an attested photograph of the applicant along with bank account number of the applicant

Pension payment order
Matriculation Certificate
Copy of overseas citizenship
Copy of bank account statement in the residing country
Copy of VISA granted by foreign country
Copy of registration certificate - issued by Foreigner's Registration Office
While filing the forms, the individual must have two recent colored photographs, with white background. The size of the photograph should be 3.5cm X 2.5cm. The photograph should be pasted on the form and should not stapled or clipped.
