Addressing the media after reports said that Pakistan has offered India consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav on Friday, 2 August, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Thursday said that they have "received a proposal from Pakistan" and are evaluating it in light of the ICJ judgment.

"We have received a proposal from Pakistan. We are evaluating the proposal in light of ICJ judgment. We will maintain communication with Pakistan in this matter through diplomatic channels... Whatever response is to be sent will be given by us timely through diplomatic channels [sic]," Kumar said, but refused to elaborate further.

Earlier, reports citing the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson said that the country has decided to grant consular access to Jadhav on Friday, and had informed the Indian High Commission and was awaiting a formal response.

The developments on Thursday came after the ICJ verdict, which directed Pakistan to grant India consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav. The International Court of Justice had also asked the Pakistani military court to suspend and review the death sentence accorded to him.

India has reportedly made 18 requests for consular access to Pakistan.
