A page from Tuesday’s edition of Greater Kashmir offers a heart-breaking portrait of the Valley – currently reeling under violence after the killing of top Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.

The newspaper page is full of notices for cancelled invitations to feasts and other celebratory events. There are numerous requests for blood donation as well.

The region has been in the throes of violence since Friday following the death of the 21-year-old poster boy of Kashmir’s insurgency movement that resulted in protests against the Indian security forces.

Most invitations were made for marriage ceremonies. Almost every announcement says the ceremony was cancelled “due to prevailing situations”.

Life in the region has truly hit a standstill!
