Reactions are pouring in after the speech by JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar – in support of him and against him.

His speech and the attention given to his speech is being criticised by the people on every platform.

Allegations of Sedition

Kanhaiya Kumar also responded to allegations that JNU students indulged in “sedition” even as soldiers lost their lives at the border. Kanhaiya said,

Those who are fighting at the borders are our brothers and fathers. We understand their fight. You merely sit in Parliament and speak of their sacrifice.

Speaking of sedition charges against him, Kanhaiya said his fight was not for “freedom from India” but for “freedom within India”.

He said, “While I was in jail, I spoke with a policeman who asked me about the slogans that were raised. I explained to him that our fight was against corruption, poverty and such evils. He was surprised and asked me what was anti-India in that.”

Kanhaiya told that crowd that it was a systematic attempt to crush the voices demanding justice for PhD scholar Rohith Vemula who committed suicide in Hyderabad.

‘Satyamev Jayate, Mr Prime Minister’

Kanhaiya hits out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He says,

Our prime minister has tweeted “satyamev jayate”. I disagree with him ideologically but today, I will say it too, “satyamev jayate”. And yes, in the end, those who are honest will be victorious.

He also accused the system of using sedition as a political tool against students in the country.

Kanhaiya hits out at the ABVP but says, “they are our Opposition, not our enemies because we are democratic”.

We do not have a problem with them because we are democratic. We have complete faith in the Indian Constitution and the judiciary.

Kanhaiya Gets a Hero’s Welcome

Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union President (JNUSU) Kanhaiya Kumar returned to the campus this evening and got a hero’s welcome.

After the crowd shouted celebratory slogans along with Kanhaiya for about 10 minutes, the JNUSU President made a powerful speech.

With strong support from an enthusiastically cheering crowd, Kanhaiya spoke at length about his fight, the crackdown on JNU and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

I would like to thank all those who supported us in our fight. Thank you for standing by us.
