In a press briefing, Director General of Military Operations Rajeev Ghai said: "Those strikes across those nine terror hubs left more than 100 terrorists killed, including high value targets such as Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf and Mudasir Ahmed that were involved in the hijack of IC814 and the Pulwama blast.
The line of control was also violated soon after by Pakistan and the erratic and rattled response of our enemy was apparent from the number of civilians, inhabited villages and religious sites such as Gurudwaras that were unfortunately hit by them, leading to a sad loss of lives.
The Indian Air Force played a major part in these strikes by engaging some of these camps and the Indian Navy provided wherewithal in terms of precision munitions. The Indian Air Force had their assets up in the sky."
Key highlights from the briefing:
DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai stated that over 100 terrorists were killed in precision strikes carried out by India. He emphasised that the strikes were a compelling response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.
Lt Gen Ghai said that the Indian Army had deliberately identified nine terror targets ahead of the May 7 operation. These targets were destroyed in coordinated air and ground strikes, and the Indian Army achieved “total surprise” in the process.
The Army also displayed before-and-after images of the destroyed terror camps, with Ghai confirming that the terrorists killed included high-value targets such as Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed.
Ghai further added that a hotline message was sent to his Pakistani counterpart on May 10, highlighting recent ceasefire violations. He said these violations were responded to “robustly and dealt with as they must be.”
Air Marshal A K Bharti, also present at the briefing, revealed that 35–40 Pakistani Army personnel had been killed at the Line of Control during India’s retaliatory strikes.
Air Marshal Bharti explained that during the intervening night of 8-9 May, Pakistan launched a coordinated drone and UCAV raid from Srinagar to Nalya. However, due to India's strong air defence systems, no damage was reported to strategic targets or civilian areas.
Bharti added that India’s response was “swift, coordinated, and calibrated,” targeting key Pakistani military assets such as air bases, command centres, air defence systems, and military infrastructure—specifically naming Chaklala (Islamabad) and Rafiqui among the targeted locations.
He underlined that India’s objective was to eliminate terrorist infrastructure and not to strike Pakistani civilian or regular military establishments. He also contrasted this with Pakistan’s response, which he said targeted Indian civilians and military infrastructure. In response, Indian forces struck radar installations near Lahore and Gujranwala.
Air Marshal Bharti confirmed that all mission objectives had been met and that “all our pilots are back home.” He said the results of Operation Sindoor were “for the whole world to see.”
