The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday, 6 April, reported an increase 704 COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest rise recorded so far. The total number of cases rose to 4,281 and including 3,851 active cases. The death toll stands at 111.
The Union Cabinet on Monday approved the Ordinance amending the salary, allowances and pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 reducing allowances and pension by 30 percent with effect from 1 April, 2020 for a year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
In Gujarat's Vadodara, a 62-year-old woman with a travel history to Sri Lanka who had tested positive for COVID-19 died on Monday, 6 April. Bhopal reported its first coronavirus-related death after another 62-year-old succumbed Sunday night, ANI reported.

FIR has been registered against him, reported ANI.
“I'd appealed to people four days back that no one should visit me on my birthday. Still some party workers visited me. My rivals conspired and told people that ration is being distributed at my residence, even when I didn't call anyone here. This was shot to defame me,” added Dadarao Keche.

“Sixteen more people (all men) have tested positive for COVID-19. They are admitted at various hospitals in the state,” said King George's Medical University (Lucknow) Administration, ANI reported.

Man Escapes From Quarantine Centre in J&K's Samba; Brought Back, Booked
A man escaped from a coronavirus quarantine centre in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, but he was brought back to the facility and booked by the police, officials said on Monday, PTI reported.
Showket Ahmed Malik, a resident of Handwara town in Kupwara district, fled the quarantine centre on Sunday. On being informed about the incident a police team from Ramgarh immediately swung into action, traced the man and brought him back the same day, they said.
ICMR to Get Around 7 Lakh Anti-Body Testing Kits Soon
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to get about seven lakh rapid anti-body testing kits by 8 April. These will help in conducting COVID-19 tests in hotspot areas where large number of cases are being seen. ICMR will get delivery in a phased manner.
It's expected that they will get five lakh kits in the first phase, orders have been placed, ANI reported.

50 People, Including Doctors, Quarantined in Bikaner as Woman Tests Positive After Death
Over 50 people, including doctors and nursing staff of a hospital in Bikaner have been quarantined after samples taken from a 60-year-old woman, who died here, tested positive for coronavirus, PTI reported quoting officials.
The staff at the state-run PBM Hospital had handed over the body of the woman to her family members on Friday afternoon but the results of the COVID-19 test came at night, they said. By then, the family members had already cremated the body, the officials said on Sunday.
Delhi Police Registers Around 198 FIRs Over Violation of Home Quarantine Orders
“Around 198 FIRs registered by Delhi Police over violation of home quarantine orders. These FIRs were registered not only on the basis of the complaints by neighbors or family members but also on the basis of phone tracking,” said Delhi Police.
They added, “Police have been provided phone numbers of all those who are under home quarantine. At least 176 FIRs were lodged solely on the basis of phone tracking and surprise physical visits.”
Gambhir Offers Rs 50 Lakh From MPLAD Fund to Delhi Govt for Medical Equipment
East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir on Monday offered Rs 50 lakh from his MPLAD fund to the Delhi government for procurement of equipment for medical staff dealing with COVID-19 cases, around two weeks after he pledged the same amount for the purpose, PTI reported.
The Delhi government has yet to respond to his previous offer, said an aide of the cricketer-turned-politician.
“It is stated by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia that funds are needed to meet the growing demand of medical equipment in several Delhi government hospitals. In addition to Rs 50 lakh which I had pledged two weeks ago, I would further like to pledge Rs 50 lakh from my MPLAD to your kind office with the hope that the said amount would be used in procurement of equipment of medical staff as well as treatment of COVID-19 patients,” Gambhir said in a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday.
16 New Cases in Gujarat; Tally Rises to 144
"Sixteen new COVID-19 positive cases detected in Gujarat—11 from Ahmedabad, two from Vadodara, on each from Patan, Mehsana and Surat. Total number of positive cases in the state rises to 144 (including 21 discharged and 11 deaths),” said Health & Family Welfare Department, Gujarat, ANI reported.
33 Fresh Cases Reported in Maharashtra; State's Tally at 781
Thirty-three new coronavirus positive cases reported in Maharashtra today —19 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 11 in Mumbai, one each in Ahmednagar, Satara and Vasai. Total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 781.

14 New Cases in AP; State's Tally Increases to 266
"Fourteen more COVID-19 positive cases reported in Andhra Pradesh — five in Visakhapatnam, three in Anantapuram, three in Kurnool, two in Guntur, and one in West Godavari. Total number of positive coronavirus cases in the state stands at 266,” said Arja Srikanth, State Nodal Officer, ANI reported.
So far, two deaths have been reported from the state.
Govt Said They Will Give Us 27,000 PPE Kits, Yet to Receive Them: Delhi Health Min
“The central government had said that they are giving us 27,000 PPE kits. We did not get it yesterday, maybe we will receive it in a day or two,” said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain., reported ANI.
Jain added, “We have not been able to trace the contact of 70 people, out of the total number of positive cases found in Delhi. Many of them were found to be positive only yesterday, so we will find it out by this evening.”

In Bihar, due to the novel coronavirus, the total death toll stands at 32. While the total testing has increased to 3,545, around 755 tests are under process.

Himachal Pradesh Police said, “FIR registered against four people linked to Tablighi Jamaat under Sections 188, 269 and 270 of IPC and Section 51 of Disaster Management Act, in Nerwa area of Shimla.”
Police added, “Three of them attended Markaj at Delhi's Nizammudin on 9 March and one attended on 18 March,” ANI reported.
Funds to India Will Help Curb COVID-19, Support Local Groups: US Embassy
United States Embassy said, “In India on 28 March,US government, via US Agency for International Development,announced 2.9 million to support India in its response to COVID-19. It builds on a foundation of over 1.4 billion in health assistance, and nearly 3 billion in total assistance, that US provided to India over last 20 years,” ANI rreported
The embassy added that the these new funds will support two organisations. $2.4 million for USAID's health strengthening project, implemented by Jhpiego, an international non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, and $500,000 for the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The funds will help the Government of India slow the spread of COVID-19, provide care for the affected, and support local communities with the tools needed to contain the disease,” added the embassy.
65-Yr-Old Dies in Amritsar, COVID-19 Infection to Be Confirmed Conclusively
“A 65-year-old man, who tested COVID-19 positive in preliminary test, died today morning in Amritsar. He was admitted to a hospital on 29 March and had tested negative. COVID-19 infection has not been conclusively confirmed behind his death,” said Punjab Special Chief Secretary KBS Sidhu, ANI reported.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all universities and colleges to set up mental health helplines to address psychosocial concerns of students during the lockdown imposed to combat coronavirus, PTI reported.
“During the period of national lockdown, it is equally important to address any kind of mental health and psychosocial concerns of student community during and after COVID-19 situation issue,” UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said in a letter to vice chancellors.
8 Tablighi Jamaat Members Who Attended Markaz Event Test Positive: Sitapur CMO
“Eight members of Tablighi Jamaat who had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19 in Khairabad. Seven of them are Bangladeshis and one is from Maharashtra, they will be shifted to a hospital,” said Alok Verma, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sitapur, ANI reported.
16 Fresh Coronavirus Cases Reported in Up, Total Nears 300-Mark
Sixteen people tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the state close to 300, officials said in Lucknow, PTI reported.
Six samples from Lucknow, eight from Sitapur and two samples sent from Agra have tested positive for the infection, an official KGMU statement said.
With the fresh cases, the total in the state reaches 294 and is likely to cross the 300-mark as more reports are expected later in the day.

14-Month-Old Boy with No Travel History Contracts COVID-19
A 14-month-old boy with no travel history has tested positive for coronavirus in Gujarat's Jamnagar district, sending the health officials into an overdrive to find out from where the child contracted the deadly disease, PTI reported.
The child, whose test came out positive on Sunday, is on ventilator support and the locality where his labourer parents reside in Dared village has been put under complete lockdown to check the spread of the virus, officials said.
This is also the first case of coronavirus infection in Jamnagar district.

A total of 29 cases have come in Agra, 12 in Lucknow, 14 in Ghaziabad, 3 in Lakhimpur Kheri, 7 cases in Kanpur city, said Awanish Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary Home on Monday.
The Chief Secretary added even if there is one case in the state then it won't be appropriate to relax the lockdown after 14 April but cannot confirm further.
20 Positive Cases Reported in Delhi in 24 Hours
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the capital has reached 523, with 20 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours. Ten of the recent cases include attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin.

Telangana CM Suggests Extended Lockdown
Telangana Chief Minister's Office on Monday clarified that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao suggested extension of lockdown for 2 more weeks (after 15 April), reported ANI.
The minister took a reference from a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report which suggested lockdown in India will be good until 3 June.
There has been no formal announcement of a lockdown extension yet.

K'taka Govt Permits Operation of Selected Food Units With Minimum Staff
The Karnataka government on Monday, 6 April, said that food units in the state engaged in bakery, biscuits, condiments, confectionary and sweet for manufacturing, supply and operating retail outlets with minimum staff are permitted, ANI reported.

'There May be Retaliation,' Says Trump if India Does not Export Hydroxychloroquine
