The death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 62 in India on Friday, 3 April, and the total number of cases has increased to 2,547, as the country registered a record spike of 478 new cases, according to the Union health ministry.

Meanwhile, 93 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Delhi, taking the total number to 386. 102 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Tamil Nadu, taking the total to 411.

Meanwhile, in a special video message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all citizens to “switch off all lights for 9 minutes and light up lamps or torch or cellphone flashlights on Sunday, 5 April at 9 pm.”

Odisha announced a 48-hour lockdown in three of its cities – Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Cuttack, starting from 8 pm tonight.

Three more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand, raising the total number of cases in the state to 10, reported PTI.

Global Death Toll Crosses 50,000

The global death toll from COVID-19 crossed 50,000 on Thursday, according to John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Centre.

The highest number of deaths come from Italy, where over 13,000 patients have died and 115, 242 are infected.

US President Donald Trump has tested negative for coronovairus for the second time.

"This morning, the President was tested again for COVID-19 utilizing a new, rapid point-of-care test capability. He is healthy and without symptoms. Sample collection took place just one minute, and results were reported back in 15 minutes, the White House physician Sean Conley wrote in a memo, reported ANI.

“Five people test positive for COVID-19 in Tonk. They are close contacts of the positive coronavirus patients (who attended Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi). COVID-19: Maha Govt Launches Online Self-Assessment Tool

With over 400 people testing positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra, the state government has now taken the fight against the pandemic online, by launching a COVID-19 self-assessment tool, PTI reported.

The government has created a digital platform, wherein citizens can assess their symptoms from the comfort of their homes and later contact authorities if they have any doubts about their condition, an official release stated.

A man with international travel history has tested positive for COVID-19 in Goa, taking the number of infections in the state to six, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Friday.

The man, a resident of Mandrem in North Goa who had travelled to Mozambique recently, tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday night, he said.

COVID-19: Health Ministry Pegs Total Cases at 2,301, 56 Deaths

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs on Friday, reported that the death toll from the COVID-19 outbreak in India has risen to 56, while the number of cases has gone up to 2,301.

Out of the total cases, 2,088 are active cases. according to the ministry.

The Manipur government has asked 31 people who had travelled in a flight from Delhi to Imphal on 11 March along with the state's second COVID-19 patient to report to the Control Room set up to deal with coronavirus cases.

The 31, including 14 women, are considered as “high risk” as they were in close proximity to the 65-year-old man, an official release said in Imphal, reported PTI.

Army Runs 6 Quarantine Facility, 1,737 People Handled at These Centres: Ministry of Defence

“Armed Forces running 6 quarantine facilities.1,737 people have been handled at these centres, of which 403 have been released so far. Three positive COVID-19 cases were referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.15 other facilities being kept ready as standby if required,” Ministry of Defence stated.

The ministry added, “Dedicated COVID-19 facilities including High Dependency Units, ICU beds, prepared in 51 hospitals of Armed Forces across country. Some of these facilities located at Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Bengaluru, Kanpur, Jaisalmer, Jorhat, Assam and Gorakhpur.”

“Five viral testing labs at Armed Forces hospitals which can carry out COVID-19 test have been made part of national grid including in Delhi, Bengaluru and Lucknow. Six more hospitals are being equipped shortly,” he added.

“172 new positive COVID-19 cases reported in the state today, of which 42 persons had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi,” Uttar Pradesh government Sources, ANI reported.

IAS Officer Among Nine Test Positive for Coronavirus in MP

An IAS officer is among nine persons who have tested positive for coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh since Thursday night, taking the state's tally to 120, a senior health official said on Friday, PTI reported.

The 2011-batch IAS officer is posted in the health department in Bhopal and has a history of travelling outside Madhya Pradesh in recent times, he said.

Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre on hearing a petition filed by social activists Harsh Mander and Anjali Bharadwaj, seeking immediate direction for payment of basic minimum wages to migrant workers, who were adversely affected by coronavirus lockdown, ANI reported.

Visas of 960 Tablighi Jamaat Foreigners Cancelled: Officials

“Nine hundred sixty Tablighi Jamaat foreigner members including 379 Indonesians, 110 Bangladeshis blacklisted, visas cancelled,” stated officials.

The officials added, “Tablighi Jamaat activists who were blacklisted and visas cancelled include nine British, four American, six Chinese, three French nationals,” officials stated.

8 More Test Positive in Haryana; Tally at 43

“Eight more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Haryana, taking the total number of cases to 43 including 13 discharged. Of the eight new cases, five are from Gurugram and three from Nuh,” said State Health Department, reported ANI.

First Coronavirus Death Confirmed in AP

Days after a 55-year-old man died in a government hospital in Vijayawada, the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday confirmed that coronavirus was the cause of the death.

This is the first coronavirus death reported in the state, where total number of positive cases rose to 161, out of which three have recovered. The man contracted the disease from his son, who returned from New Delhi after attending the Tablighi Jamaat congregation on 17 March.

336 New Cases of COVID-19 Reported in India Since Thursday: Health Ministry

6 CISF personnel have tested coronavirus positive in Maharashtra, officials said on Friday. The personnel were posted at Kharghar adjoining Mumbai, a senior official said.

Five CISF personnel had tested coronavirus positive earlier, he added. As of now, there are 14 COVID-19 cases in Panvel Municipal Corporation area. Kharghar comes under the civic body's jurisdiction, PTI reports.

NHA Partners with Uber India to Provide Transport For Healthcare Workers

National Health Authority (NHA) on Friday announced that it has partnered with Uber India to provide transport for India’s frontline healthcare workers engaged in the treatment of COVID-19 patients, reported ANI.

Uber will initially facilitate provision of 150 cars free of cost to support medical facilities in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Patna via UberMedic service. All such cars supplied to NHA will be equipped with roof-to-floor plastic sheeting enclosing driver’s seat.
