Test Result of Woman Who Died in Navi Mumbai is Positive
The test report of a woman who died on 24 March turned out positive for coronavirus on Thursday, taking the COVID-19 death toll in Maharashtra to four, a health official said, reported PTI.
The woman, who hailed from Navi Mumbai, had symptoms similar to the coronavirus infection. Thus, as a precautionary measure, her samples were taken and sent for testing, he said.
COVID-19: 13 Dead, 649 Active Cases in India, Says Health Ministry
The total number of positive cases in India has risen to 649, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry said on Thursday, 26 March. While there are total 593 active cases, the number of discharged cases stands at 42, according to the ministry.

BSP president Mayawati on Thursday asked the central and state governments to provide relief package for the poor and daily wage earners hit by the 21-day coronavirus lockdown.
In a tweet in Hindi, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, “After effectively imposing the 21-day lockdown/curfew restrictions on 130 crore poor/working people of the country, the central and state government must provide a relief package for them so that they don't starve."
BSP president Mayawati on Thursday asked the central and state governments to provide relief package for the poor and daily wage earners hit by the 21-day coronavirus lockdown.
In another tweet, she said:, “Besides the various concessions given to the private sector during the lockdown, the people working there must get their monthly salary.” She also urged people to comply with the prohibitory orders imposed by the authorities.

Coronavirus: Delhi Police Distributes Food Packets to Slum-Dwellers Amid Lockdown
The Delhi Police today distributed food packets to slum-dwellers in West Delhi amid the lockdown and educated them about the precautions to be taken in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, officials said.
Approximately 1,000 food packets were distributed with the help of an NGO in slum clusters of West Delhi's Raghubir Nagar and Ghondewala Mandir, they said, reported PTI.
With the help of NGO "Ek Noor" and peace committee members, the police officials of West district initiated a campaign for distribution of food, water and sanitisation in the slum area, a senior police official said.
Maha Labourer Walks 135 KM to Reach His Village Amid Lockdown
Amid travel restrictions due to the lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, a 26- year-old daily wager walked over 135 km without food from Nagpur in Maharashtra to reach his home in Chandrapur.
As panic built up over the lockdown and poor people started returning to their homes, Narendra Shelke, who worked as a labourer in Pune, also decided to go back to his native Jambh village in Saoli tehsil of Chandrapur district.
He managed to catch the last train from Pune to Nagpur, but as the government later enforced restrictions on all sorts of travel, he got stranded in Nagpur, reported PTI.

Rajwati, a daily wage labourer said, “ We are surviving without food and water here. We request the government to help us. It is better to die of this disease (#COVID19) rather than dying of hunger.”
Odisha to Set Up 1,000 Bed Hospital Exclusively for COVID-19 Patients

The patient has a travel history to Nagpur. This case raises the state case total to 126.
Doctor Couple Among Three to Test Positive for COVID-19 in Telangana
A doctor couple are among the three persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday raising the total number of cases in the state to 44, reported PTI.
The three cases includes a 49-year old man, a resident of Qutbullapur in Medchal district. He had travelled to Delhi and the patient is stable and admitted at the designated hospital.
The two other confirmed cases are of a doctor couple from Hyderabad city pertaining to a 36-year-old doctor and her 41-year-old husband, also a doctor. Both are contact cases.

China Cancels UN Security Council Meeting
China has cancelled a UN Security Council meeting scheduled for Thursday in COVID-19-stricken New York as it seeks to encourage "votes by writing" while the pandemic rages on, reported AFP, diplomatic sources.
The Security Council, currently chaired by China, has not met since 12 March and is holding "virtual" meetings to vote on resolutions.
Thursday's meeting was due to renew the mandate of UN experts responsible for sanctions imposed on North Korea and extend the peace mission in Somalia.
IAF Bangalore Command Hospital Approved for COVID-19 Testing
The Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore (CHAFB) has been designated as the 1st laboratory in the Indian Air Force to undertake COVID-19 testing, reported ANI.
IAF on Thursday announced that it has created 9 quarantine facilities of 200-300 personnel capacity each, at nodal IAF bases across the country.
IAF aircrafts are continuing to fly in medical supplies and doctors to Leh and fly out blood samples for COVID-19 testing to Chandigarh and Delhi.
Spain Death Toll Crosses 4,000
The COVID-19 death toll in Spain surged to 4,089 after 655 people died within 24 hours, reported AFP, quoting the health ministry.
The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose to 56,188 in Spain, which has the world's second highest death toll from the disease after Italy.
4 More Test Positive for COVID-19 in UP
Four more persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, taking the number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 42, reported PTI, quoting an official.
"Four fresh cases were found positive for coronavirus on Thursday. The total number of cases have now reached 42, including eight in Agra, three in Ghaziabad, 14 in Noida, eight in Lucknow, two in Pilibhit and one each in Baghpat, Lakhimpur-Kheri, Moradabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Jaunpur and Shamli," said Awanish Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary Information.
Mangaluru's Wenlock Hospital Assigned as COVID-19 Facility
The district Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru will be turned into a dedicated hospital for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, reported PTI, quotingDakshina Kannada district-in- charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
“The 250-bed super speciality wing at Wenlock would be converted to a dedicated hospital to treat coronavirus patients in view of the prevailing situation,” the Minister said.

More Than 250,000 Declared COVID-19 Cases in Europe
The number of declared coronavirus cases in Europe topped 250,000, according to an AFP tally Thursday, more than half of which are in hard-hit Italy and Spain.
Europe is the worst-affected region in the world with 258,068 cases, including 14,640 deaths, ahead of Asia's 100,937 infections and 3,636 fatalities, according to a tally compiled from national health data and World Health Organization figures.

Interim Court Orders in Maha to Continue till 30 April: HC
The Bombay High Court on Thursday said all interim orders passed by courts across Maharashtra shall continue till 30 April in view of the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by the Centre to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus, reported PTI.
The bench also took cognisance of a letter written to it by a group of senior lawyers requesting for court hearings to be held via video conferencing to ensure safe access to justice given the extended lockdown.

Delhi Police Withdraws Order Allowing Online Retail Firms to Re-start Services
Hours after allowing several online retail firms to re-start their delivery services, the Delhi police on Thursday withdrew its previous order with "immediate effect", officials said.
The police had issued a statement directing its personnel to allow persons and vehicles engaged in essential services to operate in Delhi and listed names of retailers and online delivery services that should be allowed to function.
The police did not cite any reason for withdrawing its previous order, but a senior police official said essential supplies would continue and a uniform order across states would be issued soon.

Shops selling essential commoditieswill be allowed to stay open 24 hours of the day in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced on Thursday evening.
The decision was taken to prevent crowding at shops and marketplaces amid the lockdown to contain the coronavirus pandemic, said a statement from his office.
However, shop-keepers must ensure that social distancing is maintained and rules about hygiene and sanitizing are followed, the CMO statement said.

COVID-19 Patient Man Escapes from Quarantine in Rajasthan
A 21-year-old COVID-19 positive patient triggered a scare after he escaped from a quarantine facility in Rajashtan’s Jhunjhunu district only to be brought back by authorities after he was found at his home, reported PTI.
“Health department officials have taken the samples of 10 family members of the patient and kept all of them in an isolation ward in the facility,”said Chhote Lal Jhunjhunu Chief Medical and Health Officer.

Budget carrier GoAir on Thursday said its all services, including international flights, will remain suspended till 14 April due to the 21-day nationwide lockdown amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“The airline fully respects the decisive steps being taken by our PM followed by various state and local governments to arrest the spread of COVID-19,” the airline statement read.
"Although these steps will stop air travel until 14 April and impact the very purpose of GoAir's existence, they are essential for the health of our customers, our employees and our nation,” the statement read.

South Africa' confirmed COVID-19 cases rose sharply on Thursday to 927 from 709 the previous day, on the eve of a three-week lockdown, reported AFP, quoting the government.
"As of today, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa have risen by 218. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 927," the health ministry said in a statement.

France Reports 365 More Coronavirus Deaths, Including 16-Year-Old
France on Thursday, 26 March, reported that 365 people, including a 16-year-old girl, had died from the coronavirus over the last 24 hours, the country's highest daily toll, AFP reported.
Top French health official Jerome Salomon told reporters that a total of 1,696 people had died in hospital in France from the virus, emphasising that the toll does not include those who died at home or at retirement homes.
