Medical College in Kerala Bans Jeans, ‘Noisy Ornaments’ for Girls
The women have been asked to wear formals like ‘churidar or saree’.
A medical college in Kerala has issued a new diktat barring girls from wearing jeans, leggings and 'noisy ornaments'.
The vice principal of Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram had issued a circular on Thursday stating rules for regular attendance and final internal marks for the MBBS course.
At the bottom on the circular was a list of 'dos' and 'don'ts' for both boys and girls asking them to dress formally.
While the boys have been ordered to maintain a ‘neat and clean dress and appearance with formal dress and shoes’, the women have been asked to wear formals which specifically mean ‘churidar or saree’ and that their hair must be ‘put up’. The circular also prohibits female students from wearing ‘jeans, leggings or noisy ornaments’.
Earlier this year, a college in Kozhikode had also banned girls from wearing jeans on campus.
