A newlywed couple in Bihar had to hop aboard a makeshift boat as their journey was halted due to a flooded road while they were on their way back home from the wedding venue, news agency ANI reported.

The incident reportedly took place in the Forbisganj area of Araria district on Sunday, 14 July, when the guests were returning to Jogbani after attending the wedding in Garha village.

"We had to construct a makeshift boat using drums and wood logs to send the bride and groom to the native village because the flood water has damaged the connecting road," a relative of the groom told ANI.

One of the locals from a village near Kusheshwar area had told the agency on Saturday, that "the situation is worst here. Our village is flooded."

Rising water levels in many rivers due to continuous rain had created flood-like situation in as many as six districts of Bihar and had affected rail services, IANS reported on Saturday, quoting officials.

Rail services were affected as flood waters submerged tracks at many places.

The water level in Koshi river is increasing continuously and at the Gandak barrage it has risen sharply due to heavy rain in the Terai region of Nepal, the officials had reportedly said on Saturday.

According to reports, hundreds of people have fled or are fleeing their homes in Supaul, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Araria and Kishanganj districts.
