The Enforcement Directorate summoned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui to appear in front of its Lucknow office on Thursday. The ED reportedly wants the actor to explain how he received Rs 1.15 crore from a Noida-based company called AddsBook.

According to News18, the actor reportedly did not show up for the hearing, but his lawyer and his brother, Shamsuddin, attended on his behalf.

Nawazuddin had earlier been summoned by the ED, but had failed to attend the meeting, because of which a fresh notice was sent his way.

The reason behind the summon was his link to the directors of AddsBook, a subsidiary of Webwork Trade Links, which was under investigation for administering an e-commerce ponzi scheme. The directors had allegedly reached out to Nawazuddin for an ad shoot to promoting the company, for which he was given a whopping Rs 1.15 crore, reports Times of India.

Directors Anurag Garg and Sandesh Verma had been pulled up by the UP Police and other law enforcement agencies for having raked in more than Rs 250 crore within four months through fraudulent schemes focused on generating money from investors. The “investors” were also encouraged to buy subscription packages and were told that they would receive money by clicking on advertising links online.
