Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi on Floods, GST and Women’s Cricket
Key highlights from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat radio address.
In the July edition of his radio address, Mann ki Baat, on 30 July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about a number of issues, including the floods that have wreaked havoc in a number of states.
Several agencies and volunteers have been contributing to allay the distress, he said.
During the floods, "governmental agencies, Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force, para-military forces, everyone gets down to help others," PM Modi said.
Farmers are the most affected by floods in the country, he said, adding that the government was working to compensate them for the crop loss and other damages.
Technological advancement has helped predict weather and draw up contingency plans, he said.

On GST
PM Modi also talked about the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Dubbing it the “Good and Simple Tax,” PM Modi said he had received several letters from citizens regarding the new tax regime.
The GST can be a case study for economists worldwide, he said.
On the Women in Blue
Lauding the women’s cricket team for their performance in the recently concluded World Cup, he said that the overwhelming support for the team during this edition of the world cup showed a shift of mentality.
On Celebrating Independence Day
Ahead of Independence Day, PM Modi recalled the sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
He talked about the Quit India movement which began on 9 August, 1942 and said that there are still a host of evils which need to quit India in 2017.
