Prime Minister Narendra Modi may become the second PM to break the tradition of attending the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) summit, The Times of India reports, citing government sources.

NAM was formulated by world leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru, at the Serbian capital city of Belgrade. Weeks after the first invitation went unanswered, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez will arrive in India to extend another invitation on Thursday.

The summit will be held on 17-18 September at Margarita Land.

Meanwhile Finance Minister Arun Jaitley may not attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’s (SAARC) finance ministers’ meet to be held on 24-25 August.

The meeting comes amid mounting tension between the two countries and a month after the host country, Pakistan’s cold behaviour towards Home Minister Rajnath Singh at the SAARC interior ministers’ meet.
