Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday, 29 April made a bizarre analogy between the mythological character Narad Muni and the search engine Google.

At an event organised by the Vishwa Samvad Kendra to celebrate Devrishi Narad Jayanti in Ahmedabad, Rupani said:

This is relevant in today’s time that Narada was a man of information; who had information of the whole world. Collecting information was his dharma for the betterment of the humankind, and it is very much required.
Narada’s character featured in both Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, and he was known for carrying information around the universe.

Rupani further added, “Google is the source of information just like Narad, because he knew everything happening in the world.”

Speaking at the event about the importance of a neutral media in a democracy, Rupani said that media can comment on the functioning of the government, but they have to be “neutral and authentic”.

The statement comes at a time when Tripura Chief Minister has taken the internet by storm with his bizarre statements from invention of internet during Mahabharata to why mechanical engineers shouldn’t opt for UPSC.

While Rupani drew a parallel between Narada and Google, Biplab Deb in all seriousness asserted that internet was invented during Mahabharata.
