Zameer Uddin Shah, the Former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-Chancellor Lt General (retired) on Thursday, 10 October, said that Muslims should hand over the disputed Ayodhya land to Hindus for the sake of lasting peace in the country.

In an interactive session organised by the ‘Indian Muslims for Peace’ he said, “In case the Supreme Court passes judgment in favour of Muslims, they should hand over the land to their Hindu brothers for the sake of lasting peace in the country. There has to be a solution otherwise we’ll go on fighting,” reported ANI.

Shah said that he strongly supported an out-of-court settlement.

“The Supreme Court should give a clear verdict and it should not be 'Panchayati' at all. Even if the court gives judgment in favour of Muslims, will it be possible to build a mosque there? It is impossible,” he said.

Among other prominent personalities at the event, Padma Shri Mansoor Hasan was also present.

Convenor of ‘Indian Muslims for peace’ Kalam Khan in a press statement said that a meeting of the forum passed a resolution favouring an out of court settlement of the case.

He said the group would prefer out of court settlement so that both Hindus and Muslims remain happy and no party feels aggrieved.

The Supreme Court is presently hearing the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute on a daily basis and Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has urged the parties in the matter to conclude the arguments by 17 October.
