The overall flood situation in the north-east continued to improve today, except in Assam, where two more persons died, taking the death toll due to flood-related incidents in the region to 25, officials told PTI.
While the water level in the rivers of Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur are receding, it is maintaining a rising trend in the six affected districts of Assam.
Flood Situation in Tripura Improves, IAF Airlifts Supplies
The overall flood situation in Tripura showed significant improvement on Sunday, 17 June, with water receding in all the major rivers of the state. However, several localities still remained submerged in the Kailashahar sub-division
The Indian Air Force was called in to airlift supplies to the areas that were cut off by flood water. It has been able to provide a total of eight tons of relief material to Tripura's Kailashahar and Assam's Hailakandi areas, reported ANI.
Thunderstorm, Rain Warning Over Western UP
The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that thunderstorm and rain accompanied with dust is likely to occur during the next two hours in several areas of Western Uttar Pradesh on Monday, 18 June, reported ANI.
BSF Troops Rescuing Stranded People in Assam, Mizoram
Troops of 150 Battalion of BSF deployed in Lunglei, Mizoram and 131 Battalion of BSF deployed at Dholchera, Cachar in Assam are rescuing people stranded due to flood in border areas of Mizoram and Barak Valley, reported ANI.
Death Toll in Kerala Floods Rises to 45
The death toll in rain related incidents in Kerala since the onset of the monsoon rose to 45 on Friday, 15 June, with the recovery of the body of a baby girl and a teenaged boy being washed away in flash floods in the district, officials told PTI.
A total of six more persons from three families are yet to be traced from under the rubble, officials said, adding search operations were continuing to try and rescue them, PTI reported.
Blanket of Dust Over Shimla
A blanket of dust was seen in the skies over Shimla on Friday, 15 June. The Director of India Meteorological Dept, Himachal Pradesh, Manmohan Singh told ANI that “In next 2-3 days rain, hailstorm & strong winds can be expected which will lower the impact. The condition is expected to improve in the coming days.”
Three Dead as Assam Flood Situation Turns Critical, 3.87 Lakh Affected
The flood situation in Assam deteriorated drastically on Friday, 15 June, with nearly four lakh people affected across seven districts of the state. Till yesterday, the number of flood-hit people stood at 1.67 lakh in seven districts.
So far, three persons have lost their lives in landslides and flood-related incidents in different parts of the state, reported PTI.
Army Rescues More Than 950 People from Areas of Tripura
The Army has rescued more than 950 people from Kailashahar, Indiranagar, Fatikroy, Santail, Kumarghat areas of Tripura. As of now more than 2000 people are being sheltered at relief camps at Kailashahar, Tripura, reported ANI.
6 Dead in Manipur, Rescue and Relief Operations Underway
Six people have been killed by the floods in Manipur, and more than 1.5 lakh people remained marooned in two flood-hit districts of the state, reported PTI.
Units of Assam Rifles & Indian Army are carrying out rescue and relief operations in flood affected areas of Manipur. 430 people have been evacuated from Irong, Maibam, Uchiwa, Arapati, Kiyamgei, Achanbigai & Mongjam villages of Thoubal, Imphal East & Imphal West Districts of the state, reported ANI.
3 Dead in Tripura Flood; Over 40,000 in Relief Camps
The flood situation in Tripura deteriorated on Friday, 15 June, with the rain-fed Khowai river inundating fresh areas rendering thousands homeless and damaging roads and crops, officials told PTI.
Around 2,000 flood affected people took shelter in freshly opened relief camps on Friday morning owing to the swelling water level.
While two lives were lost on Wednesday, 13 June, a 50-year-old farmer was washed away by the Khowai river and his body was recovered from Sonalata area on Thursday, PTI reported.
Flights Cancelled in Chandigarh Due to Poor Visibility
A total of 26 flights have been cancelled so far at Chandigarh airport on Friday, 15 June, due to poor visibility. The cancelled flights include seven Indigo flights, eight Jet Airways flights, one Vistara flight, one AirAsia flight, one SpiceJet flight, one GoAir flight and five Air India flights, reported ANI.
Dusty Weather in North-West India to See Improvement From 16 June
Dusty weather in north-west India will see an improvement from Saturday, 16 June, ANI reported, quoting Charan Singh, a scientist at the India Meteorological Department.
Chandigarh has been experiencing a thick blanket of dust, but there will be some respite from these conditions in the next 48-72 hours, ANI quoted S.Paul, Director, India Meteorological Department as saying.

5 Dead in Kozhikode Flash Floods, Landslides

2 Dead in Manipur Flood
Two people, including a child have died in the last 24 hours because of the flood in Manipur. Both the bodies were recovered on Wednesday, 13 June, at two different locations. The deceased have been identified as Keisham Branson(7) and Shagolsem Ingocha (38), reported News18.

Due to landslide and washout between Lumding Junction and Badarpur JN in Assam section train services have been suspended in Karimganj district.

13-Year-Old Crushed to Death by Tree
A 13-year-old girl died after a coconut tree fell on her in Mumbai’s Dahisar area, when strong winds and rain lashed the city, ANI reported on 10 June. The girl was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. A case of accidental death has been registered,
BMC Takes Stock of Situation in Mumbai
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Deputy Municipal Commissioner Kishore Kshirsagar told PTI that areas like Hindmata, Dharavi and Parel received more than 100mm of rainfall, resulting in water-logging.
He said the civic administration had undertaken road repair works at 120 places, adding that there was no water-logging on Andheri-Kurla Road, Santacruz, Oberoi Mall and Lokhandwala Circle in the suburban part of the city.
More than 3,000 civic employees were out on the streets monitoring the situation, Kshirsagar said.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Over the Next Two Days

“We have issued warnings of heavy rainfall to all agencies and fishermen,” Kumar added.

Heavy Rainfall Lashes Mumbai, Delay in Suburban Trains
Parts of Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday, 9 June, following the onset of the southwest monsoon, leading to a slight delay in the running of suburban trains.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared the onset of the monsoon over Mumbai, the adjoining Thane-Konkan areas, Ahmednagar, Parbhani and other parts of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, trains on the suburban section of the Central Railway (CR) were running late by 10-12 minutes due to the showers, an official said, adding that there were no cancellations.
"There was a case of wall debris falling on tracks this morning on Down slow line. The debris were removed immediately and for some time, trains on Down slow line were diverted to the fast line," Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO of CR, said.
This happened during non-peak early morning hours, he said.
There is nothing to panic about and commuters are advised not to fall prey to rumours, Udasi added.
