Mumbaikars Can Expect Heavy Rains Starting June 6
Predicting heavy showers in Mumbai from 6 June onwards, Skymet has advised people to stay indoors.
Mumbai may soon get its share of heavy rains.
At least, that is what weather forecasting agency Skymet is predicting. Sustained heavy rains are likely to begin from the week starting 6 June. Extremely heavy showers are forecast for 8, 9 and 10 June, SkymetWeather's Founder and Chief Executive Officer Jatin Singh tweeted on Sunday, 3 June. “Warnings should be issued now. Just stay indoors,” he added.
Pre-monsoons arrived in Mumbai on Saturday, 1 June, with the city witnessing moderate to heavy rains. Chincholi witnessed the heaviest rains (39 mm) between 8 pm and 9 pm, followed by Kurla and Kandivali (34 mm each), according to information available on Skymet’s website.
The southwest monsoon, which waters more than half of India’s farmland, arrived on the mainland ahead of its normal schedule. The monsoon reached the southern state of Kerala on 29 May, which typically starts on 1 June, according to a statement on the India Meteorological Department’s website.
