IMD Forecasts Moderate Rain in Mumbai, Schools to Stay Shut
Mumbai Police tweeted saying that schools & junior colleges in the city and neighbouring districts will remain shut
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday, 19 September, predicted ‘generally cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain’ in Mumbai and ‘heavy rains in isolated places’ in the city, ANI reports said.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has kept disaster management teams on standby, reported NDTV. Meanwhile, three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are also on standby.
The prediction comes a day after the IMD had forecast 'extremely heavy rainfall' in Mumbai and the adjoining Raigad district. The IMD had also issued a red rain alert for the same.
The BMC had also tweeted on Wednesday about the possibility of rainfall, requesting citizens to be careful while venturing outside.
Meanwhile the Mumbai Police tweeted saying that schools and junior colleges in the city and neighbouring districts will remain shut on Thursday.
The same was confirmed by Maharashtra’s Education Minister Ashish Shelar as well.
