Following the floods in western Maharashtra, both the Shiv Sena and NCP have called off their statewide yatras. Both parties also announced that all their MPs and MLAs will donate a month’s salary to the flood victims.
“We have stopped all the political programmes. Aaditya, who was supposed to go into these areas as part of his tour, will not go now. But we will visit the flood-affected areas in the next two days after taking stock of the situation,” Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said.

2. Submit Details Of Plan To Preserve Esplanade Mansion, Bombay HC Tells Maharashtra
The Bombay high court (HC) on Thursday directed the state government to file an affidavit disclosing how it intends to preserve Esplanade Mansion — India’s only cast iron building — at Kala Ghoda.
A division bench of justices SC Dharmadhikari and Gautam Patel issued the directive on a petition filed by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), which sought to preserve the dilapidated heritage structure.

3. Students’ Council Elections To Make Way For State Polls
The State government has postponed the Students’ Council polls in 11 non-agricultural universities in Maharashtra and has decided to conduct it after the Assembly elections.
The Students’ Council elections were originally scheduled to be held in August-end and students had started preparations for their campaigns. On Thursday, Minister for Higher and Technical Education Vinod Tawde said if both elections are held so close to each other, it might lead to law and order problems. The State elections is expected to be held around mid-September or October.

4. Man Killed As 2 Families Clash Over Honking
A 57-year-old man who intervened in a brawl between his two sons and another family was stabbed to death at a slum in Vidyavihar (East) on Thursday.
Three people have been booked for murder in connection with the incident. The police said they would be arrested after they are discharged from hospital.
The victim was identified as Manohar Chavriya. The accused were identified as Sandeep Parcha, 28, his father Palsingh, 70, and mother Krishna, 60.

5. Mahabaleshwar Records 6,031 mm Rainfall, Wettest Place In Country
Mahabaleshwar, situated in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, became the wettest place in India after Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, as of August 8, according to data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It recorded 6,031.5 mm rainfall as against 5,397.5 mm in Cherrapunji between June 1 and August 8.
The port town of Karnataka, Hanovar, received the third highest rainfall (2,692.5 mm) between June 1 and August 8, followed by Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, which received 2,565.6 mm in the same time period. Suburban Mumbai recorded 2,454 mm rainfall.
