1. Maharashtra: Human Rights Commission Issues Show-Cause Notices To 5 Doctors

The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has issued show-cause notices to five doctors of BYL Nair Hospital, including the three final year gynaecology students arrested for alleged abetment to the suicide of 26-year-old medical student Dr Payal Tadvi, asking why action should not be taken against them in connection to the case.

Notices were also issued to the head of the gynaecology unit Dr YI Ching Ling and head of the gynaecology department Dr S D Shirodkar of the hospital. The commission has observed that prima facie there seems to a case of human rights violation and, in such a case, it may direct payment of compensation to Tadvi’s family.

2. Don’t Comment On Alliance: Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis Tell Legislators

In an attempt to keep a united front ahead of the state Assembly polls, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday issued a diktat to all their legislators – ‘Do not make statements on the alliance, particularly about sharing the chief minister’s post.’

In a joint address to the members of legislative assembly (MLAs) and members of legislative council (MLCs) of the two parties at Vidhan Bhavan, Fadnavis and Thackeray asked the members to get into poll mode and not get complacent after the victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

3. Maharashtra CM’s House On BMC Defaulter List

The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s official residence, as well as bungalows of several senior Ministers, owe the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation nearly ₹8 crore in water bills, and the corporation has included these properties in its defaulters’ list. The information was revealed in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query. Meanwhile, the government has clarified that dues were paid till November and the rest will be paid immediately.

At least 54,000 mangroves spread across 13.36 hectares (ha) in Maharashtra will be razed for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, the state government confirmed on Monday.

In a written reply to a question by Shiv Sena legislator Manisha Kayande, transport minister Diwakar Raote told the legislative Council that the government will plant five times the trees that will be cut for the project.

5. Monsoon To Officially Reach Mumbai In Next 24-48 Hrs: IMD

Residents can expect a relief with monsoon, though delayed, set to reach Mumbai within the next 24 to 48 hours. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a minimum of 2.5 mm rainfall must be recorded over a span of 24 hours for the onset of monsoon to be declared.

According to the IMD, if onset of monsoon was not officially declared on Monday, 2019 would be the most delayed to witness arrival of rains in 45 years – in 1974 monsoon had reached the city on June 28. In 2009, monsoon had hit Mumbai on June 24.
