1. 60-kg Lighter and Happy, Indrani’s Son Talks About ‘Past Horrors’
Until murder accused Indrani Mukerjea’s son and deceased Sheena Bora’s brother Mekhail Bora didn’t tell the judge his name one couldn’t tell if it was actually him. The once unshaven bulky man looked much leaner. In a crisp white shirt, grey trousers and shiny black shoes, Mekhail gave an unflinching testimony in the special court on Monday.
He spoke of being abandoned as a child by his parents, living with his grandparents and how, despite “never consuming drugs”, he was admitted as an addict at Masina Hospital in Byculla and given shocks.

2. Delisle Bridge Demolition: 16 families Set to Lose Roof Over Their Heads
Sixteen families that have been living under the Delisle bridge for the past 60 years now may suddenly be left homeless as the bridge is all set to be demolished.
These families erected make-shift structures under the bridge, which were later developed into concrete dwellings. The dwellings were given electricity and water connections in 1999.
The families said that they learnt of the planned demolition through news channels, and have not received any notice from the government asking them to vacate the place.

3. Uddhav Thackeray Slams Govt; Calls its Idea of Hindutva Fake
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government over recent mob lynchings, saying cows were safer than women in the country.
In an interview published in Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece, Saamana, on Monday, he also called the BJP’s idea of Hindutva fake and said the government has failed to check cow vigilantism.
“In the name of saving the cow, if you are shifting focus to whether someone is eating beef or not, then it is a sham. This is not Hindutva,” he said in an interview published in.

4. Jail for Hiring Staged Goons to Assault Dad of Girlfriend
The efforts of a 21-year-old man to impress his girlfriend and win the approval of her astrologer father have landed him in prison. Inspired by Hindi films, the young man hired ‘mock’ goons to assault the elderly man, just so he could save him and get into his good books.
The plan, however, did a turtle-turn when the goons threatened to tattle on him to his prospective father-in-law and, in return, demanded money. That’s when the man reported his stage show to DN Nagar police who not only arrested the main accused but the complainant as well.
Advertising professional Rupesh Bhojne, 21, hired Abbas Shaikh, 28, to feign an assault on his girlfriend’s father near DN Nagar Municipal School in Andheri West on July 19.

5. Eight Break-ins in Dharavi: Gold for Treatment, Cash for College Admission Gone
A woman, who kept her and her mother’s jewellery at her home with the plan to mortgage them to fund her husband’s treatment; a fisher woman, who saved up hard for her daughter’s junior college admission in a good college; and a retired railway employee who badly wanted to repair his house and had arranged cash for that received the biggest blows when robbers went on a looting spree in Dharavi in the small hours of Saturday.
The area witnessed as many as eight break-ins. With no arrest yet, the victims have raised fingers at the Dharavi police, saying that the police, apart from registering FIRs, have done nothing to track down the robbers or their lost valuables.

6. Fire Safety: Panel to Inspect Highrises Yet to Be Constituted
Even as the number of highrises in the city increases rapidly, a panel to inspect these structures for fire safety is yet to be formed. The decision to form the panel was taken after questions were raised on Mumbai fire brigade’s capability of combating fire on top floors of highrises.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had approved the proposal to form an independent highrise cell to inspect highrises, ensure they comply with fire safety norms and maintain fire fighting equipment. However, the civic and the Mumbai fire brigade have failed to recruit members for the highrise cell.

7. Mumbai: Ganesh Mandals Say Levy of GST, Thermocol Ban Increasing Cost
THE BAN on thermocol and levying of GST on raw materials has made the 10-day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, beginning September 13, an expensive affair with a 20 per cent rise in costs, Ganesh mandals and idol makers in the city have alleged.
Not only have Ganesh idols become more expensive, mandals will also have to pay a higher tax to hire decorators. Due to GST, the cost of idols has surged by 18 per cent to 20 percent this year.

8. Mumbai: 10 Rajasthani Sculptors Toil to Restore CSMT Glory, Rlys Spends Rs 40 Crore
TWO years ago, when Maan Singh, from Chittor in Rajasthan, visited Mumbai for a masonry job, little did he know that he would eventually be rebuilding ancient gargoyles and carvings on the UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Along with nine colleagues, Singh has restored carvings on the southern facade of the building and is slowly working to finish restoration of the remaining sculptures.
In an effort to restore the heritage look of the building, the Central Railway brought in special masonry artists from Rajasthan who are skilled in stone carving work. The artists are tasked with replicating carvings or balusters that have cracked or have turned pale over the years. The railways is spending close to Rs 40 crore only on this heritage restoration of CSMT.
